Digestive Enzymes
Enzymes are biological catalyst which is responsible for degradation of complex
molecule(food) into simple(food) & absorbable form.
Enzyme enhance the rate of reaction by decreasing the activation energy of substrate.
Few important digestive enzyme are-
Trypsin - trypsin is secreted from pancreas (mix gland) as a trypsinogen.
- It cleaves the peptides at carboxyl side (c-side) of lysine (k) & arginine(R),which is basic amino acids
- .Exception,if lysine or arginine is followed by proline trypsin does not act on that peptide because 3D cleft or active site of trypsin does not fit on that situation.
- Pancreas secrets three isoform of Trypsinogen i.e.trypsiogen-1(cationic),trypsinogen-2(anionic) & mesotrpsinogen (trypsinogen-3){that provide the resistance to trypsin inhibitor}.
Chymotrypsin--cleaves the peptide at c-side of aromatic amino acid(tryptophan, tyrosin&phenylalanine).
Carboxypeptidase- are of two types-1.Carboxypeptidase-A(A for aliphatic or aromatic both) remove the C-terminal of aliphatic or aromatic amino acid.2. Carboxypeptidase-B(B for basic) remove the C-terminal of basic amino acid.
Elastase-hydrolysed the c-side of small amino acid(gly & ala).
Very nice explanation..
